2 Days Trekking Kuang Si Waterfall Adventure

Itinerary:
Day 1: Luang Prabang - Long Lao - Kuang Si Waterfall - Luang Prabang ( - / L / D / )

We depart from All Lao Travel Service Co., LTD in Luang Prabang. After 1 hour drive into the hills, west of Luang Prabang, the trek starts with a visit of the Khmu village of Ban Longlao Nung. Close by lies the Hmong village Ban Longlao Song. You can observe the life styles of these two culturally very different minority groups. Despite these differences, the villagers work together and share the same school.

One more hour of trekking takes you to the crystal clear water of just one of the springs that feed the Kuang Xi waterfall: a beautiful pool full of big sacred fish. After descending from the top of the waterfall, a Lao style lunch is served its lush setting.

The afternoon is spent bathing and relaxing by the turquoise pools below. Make sure, you visit Phet, the orphaned tiger, and a young bear living just by the entrance gate.

Before you return to Luang Prabang, we take a walk to nearby Khmu village, Ban Thapene that lies around some of the most beautiful pools of Tad Kuang Xi.

Approximately: 1 hour driving/4 hours trekking

After breakfast, we follow a trail that reaches some forest with steeper parts. A cave is explored on the way, which during the Second Indochina War, served as a bomb shelter for the villagers living in this valley.

Also walk around nearby Ban Thapene, a Khmu village that lies nestled around some of the most beautiful pools of Tad Kuang Xi. We return to Luang Prabng by Minibus.

Remark: These two days of trekking with an overnight stay in a Khmu village offer a good opportunity for gaining insight into the rural life of the local villagers. Apart from trekking across rice paddies and cultivated land, you will experience the natural beauty of Luang Prabang Province, culminating in the Tad Kuang Xi - Laos' most famous waterfall.
